Replacement of the Operation Control Center (OCC) system for the 59 km network of tracks including 46 stations.
Commissioning: June 2001.
The company NEXUS, Newcastle Metro operator, entrusted Ansaldo STS France to replace the supervision system of the network (59 km tracks - 49 stations), including :
- route control,
- automatic traffic management,
- passenger platform information displays,
- train describers.
The major innovation consisted in the use of radio-digital hyper frequency transmission modems for the track to train transmission (180 on board processors).
Compared to a traditional system, this technology allows a large flow of information at a lower cost.
The operating software has been developed on the SMS* Ansaldo STS France type platform, which demonstrates its usage flexibility and its polyvalence in dealing with various operating modes.
The software tools used on this platform (object-oriented language; Access database; graphic tools) guarantee the operator a large adaptability of the system to new functions or to new configurations.
The new system was commissioned in parallel with the old system without disturbing operations.
