In the year 2000, ADIF (Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias of
Spain) entrusted Ansaldo STS with a contract for the signalling and ATC systems
for the new High Speed line connecting Madrid to Lleida.
The ERTMS system implemented consists of 2 levels:
- ERTMS L1: Way-side signalling + speed control using balises.
- ERTMS L2: Cab signalling + continuous speed control with Radio Transmission
(GSM-R).
Ansaldo STS also implemented the ASFA system (Spanish legacy signalling
system).
Main project details:- Line length: 460 kms (Madrid to Puigverd de Lleida),
- 3000 Eurobalises®,
- 1300 track circuits,
- 13 Electronic Interlocking (SEI),
- 5 RBC and one interface between Ansaldo STS RBC and Thales RBC.
Upon completion and activation of the line in 2005, Ansaldo STS was also
awarded its maintenance.
Within the framework of this contract, Ansaldo STS is in charge of: Signalling
Systems integration (balises, track circuits, etc), ERTMS, Detectors, Energy,
Air Conditioning systems and Technical Sites, offering a complete round the
clock 24/7 corrective service.
