Metro Service A/S, company owned 51% by ATM SpA and 49% by Ansaldo STS, has been awarded by Hovedstadens Letbane of the O&M contract for the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail Line3. The duration of the contract, worth about DKK 1.8 billion (€240 million), is of 15 years. Such remarkable result arrives few days later the M1 M2 awarding contract granted, in Copenhagen as well, to Metro Service for the O&M of the driverless metro which will begin on the 1st January 2019 being in place for 5 years.
The light rail line, which unites Lyngby to Ishøj, will be 28 kilometres long improving significantly the mobility in and out the Greater Copenhagen area. Thanks to the new line will be also possible for passengers to easily reach five S-train lines and regional train stations. Furthermore, the new tram will have a remarkable impact on students at the DTU, located in Lyngby, and to those who travel to Glostrup and Herlev hospitals.
According to Hovedstadens Letbane study, the new line will lead to the creation of around 36.500 new jobs, moving between 13 to 14 million passengers per year and attracting around 32.000 new inhabitants along Ring 3 until 2032.
Ansaldo STS, along with its partners (in particular ATM which is widely considered the best Italian TPL operator), is working in Copenhagen since 1996, where realized – among other works –, the driverless metro which in 2009 won the prize as “Best world Metro”. Thanks to these new contracts Ansaldo STS continues to reinforce its position among the O&M operators across the world.
